EAGLES HOLD OFF BLUE HOSE IN SAC MEN’S BASKETBALL
 ACTION 68-65
Carson-Newman, Presbyterian, & Newberry tied for 3rd in SAC

JEFFERSON CITY, TN — In a game that featured 51 fouls and 58 free throws, the Eagles edged the Blue Hose 68-65. The Blue Hose were 21-of-30 from the line (70%) and the Eagles converted 21 of their 28 free throws (75%) on the night.

Braun Dabbs (Greeneville, Tenn.) led the Eagles with 15 points. He was followed by Terrell Turner's (Ft. Payne, Ala.) 12 points and 11 points by Ishmail Simmons (Atlanta, Ga.). Andrew Dellinger (Mauertown, Va.) and Grant Herren (Oviedo, Fla.) each scored 16 points to lead the Blue Hose.

The game was close for most of the first half until the Eagles claimed a 36-33 halftime advantage on a late lay-up by Rodrick Gresham (Jefferson, Ga.). The Eagles enjoyed their biggest lead of six points in the second half when Turner scored on a jumper in the lane with 6:07 to make it 58-52.

The Blue Hose would cut the lead to one point, 60-59, when Dellinger hit a three-pointer with 3:35 remaining in the game. C-N pushed the advantage to 68-62 on a free throw by Lucas with seven seconds left and Melvin Smith (Roanoke, Va.) produced the final score of 68-65 when he converted on a three-point attempt with three seconds remaining in the contest.

The Eagles improve to 13-9 overall and 5-5 in the SAC. The Blue Hose fall to 14-9, 5-5 in conference play. The Eagles play at Lenoir-Rhyne on Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. The Blue Hose travel to Mars Hill on Feb. 18 for an 8 p.m. game.
