HOSE ROLL PAST SHAW BEARS 75-50 CLINTON, SC – Presbyterian College senior
guard Andrew Dellinger (Mauertown, Va.) tallied a
season-high 16 points to lead the Blue Hose to a 75-50 victory
over the Shaw University Bears in men’s basketball action
Tuesday night at the Ross E. Templeton Center. The game was a rematch from last March in the semifinals of
the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional won by the Blue
Hose 77-58. After trailing early the game, the Blue Hose took their
first lead at 14-12 on a layup by freshman center Grant
Herren (Oviedo, Fla.) at the 11:45 mark. PC would not
trail the rest of the game and extended their lead to as many
as 19 points (34-15) with 4:33 remaining in the half. The
Bears would go on a 10-2 run down the stretch to cut the 36-25
entering intermission. PC shot 46.4% from the field in the first half while
holding the Bears to 36.0% from the field. The Blue Hose also
dominated the boards 22-13 including 10 offensive rebounds in
the first half. Shaw was led by junior guard Chas Bailey
(Philadelphia, Pa.) with 10 first half points. Redshirt junior
guard Rich Adams (Columbia, SC) led PC with seven
points before intermission. In the second half, PC pushed the lead to as many as 26
points in several occasions and finished the game hitting
nine-of-10 free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
PC dominated the boards 46-29 including 18 offensive boards
while shooting 25-of-32 from the charity stripe. Dellinger led PC with 16 points on four-of-four shooting
from beyond the arc while Adams tallied 11 points. Sophomore
center Johann Collins (Raleigh, NC) tallied three
points and a game-high 10 rebounds while sophomores Tray
Ballenger (Wellford, SC), Michael Drum (Rural Hall,
NC) and freshman Sean Dixon (Marietta, Ga.) each added
nine points. Shaw was led by junior guard Ricky Williams (Buffalo,
NY) who tallied 16 points and Bailey added 14 points. Freshman
forward Daryl Jacobs (Buffalo, NY) added six rebounds
and a game-high nine blocked shots. Presbyterian improves to 2-2 on the season while Shaw falls
to 0-4. |
