Exhibition Men’s Basketball Game
PC’S DRUM LEADS BLUE HOSE PAST SHARKHEADS 103-78 IN EXHIBITION ACTION

CLINTON, S.C. — Presbyterian College sophomore forward Michael Drum (Rural Hall, N.C.) led five Blue Hose players in double figures with 18 points as the Blue Hose defeated the Columbia Sharkheads 103-78 in exhibition men’s basketball action Saturday night at the Ross  E. Templeton Center.

Drum was eight-of-12 from the field on the night and added five rebounds and a team-high six assists. Redshirt junior forward Rich Adams (Columbia, S.C.) added 14 points while freshman guard Melvin Smith (Roanoke, Va.) added 13 points. Freshman guard Sean Dixon (Marietta, Ga.) chipped in 12 points and senior guard Andrew Dellinger (Mauertown, Va.) round out the double figure scorers with 11 points.

PC opened  the game on  16-7 run highlighted by seven points from Drum. The Sharkheads chipped the lead to a tie at 16-16 before the Blue Hose responded with a 25-5 run and entered halftime with a commanding 54-32 lead.

The Blue Hose shot 56.4% from the field in the first half including hitting nine-of-15 three-point field goals. The Sharkheads struggled to shoot 34.2% from the field before intermission, but were led by former Benedict College standout, Richard Taylor’s nine points.

PC led throughout the second half as they took advantage of a short Sharkheads bench. The lead was cut to 17 points at 89-72 with 5:14 remaining on a jumper by former Blue Hose standout Bret Jones before the Blue Hose responded with a 14-6 run to end the game.

The Sharkheads were led by Taylor’s 20 points and five rebounds while Jones added 18 points and six assists. Virginia Union product Kadari Richards added 15 points and Marshall University standout Barry Kincaid added 11 points. Lander University standout Maurice Walker added 10 points for the Sharkheads.

The Blue Hose open the 2003-04 regular season on Saturday, November 15 as they travel to Savannah, Ga. to face Armstrong Atlantic State University at 7:00 pm.
