BLUE HOSE BASKETBALL OPENS 2003-04 PRESEASON PRACTICE

CLINTON, S.C. — The Presbyterian College men’s and women’s basketball teams opened preparations for the 2003-04 season with the start of preseason practice today.

The men’s and women’s teams opened preseason with last night’s “Midnight Madness” festivities. Both teams continued preseason practice this afternoon with their first practice session. The teams worked on basic skill work, shooting, and conditioning. Practice continues tomorrow with the first day of two-a-days.

PC head coach Leigh Irwin begins her 2nd season at the helm of the Blue Hose women’s basketball program. Coach Irwin welcomes back nine letterwinners and four starters from last year’s team which posted a 12-15 record and finished tied for third for the South Atlantic Conference regular season race. “The coaching staff and the team are very excited to get started with preseason practice,” said Irwin. “We will rely on the leadership and experience of our returning senior backcourt and this year’s co-captains, Billie Haskins and Bonnie Werner, to help this year’s freshmen class through the rigors of preseason.”

The Blue Hose open the 2003-04 season with an exhibition game at home versus the Low Country All-Stars on Sunday, November 9 at 2:00 pm. PC opens the regular season with a trip to Due West, S.C. to face Erskine College on Monday, November 17 at 7:00 pm

PC head coach Gregg Nibert begins his 15th season at the helm of the Blue Hose men’s basketball program. Coach Nibert welcomes back six letterwinners and two starters from last year’s team which tied a school record with 27 wins against nine losses, finished fourth in the SAC regular season, runner-up for the Food Lion/SAC Tournament, and advanced to the “Sweet 16” of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. “We are very excited about getting started with preseason,” said Nibert. “We have a very young team this season, but strong senior leadership from our two captains in Willie Brown and Andrew Dellinger to lead the way.”

The Blue Hose will open the 2003-04 season by hosting an exhibition game against the Columbia Sharkheads on Saturday, November 8 at 7:00 pm. PC will open the regular season on Saturday, November 15 with a trip to Savannah, Ga. to take on Armstrong Atlantic State University at 7:00 p.m.
