BLUE HOSE ROLL PAST YELLOW JACKETS 103-92 IN SEASON OPENER
CLINTON,
S.C. — Presbyterian
College sophomore guard Sean
Dixon tallied a team-high 25 points to lead five
players in double figures as the Blue Hose defeated Allen
University 103-92 in men’s college basketball action Monday
night at the Ross E. Templeton Center.
Dixon,
a native of Marietta, Ga., hit nine-of-12 field goals
including a pair of three-pointers while adding five assists
and six rebounds on the night. Junior center Johann
Collins (Raleigh, N.C.) and freshman guard Pat
Kiscaden (Oviedo, Fla.) each added 17 points while
junior forward Tray Ballenger (Wellford, S.C.)
chipped in 15 points and six assists and sophomore forward Grant
Herren (Oviedo, Fla.) rounded out the double figure
scorers with 11 points.
Dixon
scored the first seven points for the Blue Hose to stake the
team to a 7-0 lead at the 18:55 mark. Allen fought back by
hitting their first six three-point field goals to take a
19-14 lead at the 14:19 mark. The game stayed close over the
next few minutes until junior forward Lloyd
Clinton (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished off a 9-0 Yellow Jacket
run to take their largest lead of the game at 32-23 with 10:41
remaining before halftime.
PC
took control of the game by going on a 32-12 to finish the
first half and take a 55-44 lead into intermission. The Blue
Hose shot 64.3% from the field in the first stanza while Allen
hit 43.8% of their field goal attempts including 10-of-15 from
beyond the arc.
The
Blue Hose, who held a double figure lead for the rest of the
game, pushed the lead to as many as 20 points at 89-69 on a
free throw by Dixon with 5:59 remaining in the game. Allen cut
the lead to 11 points at 103-92 as time expired on a layup by
junior guard Kenneth
McKenzie (Miami, Fla.).
Allen
was led by Clinton who tallied a game-high 31 points with
eight rebounds on four-of-six shooting from three-point range.
Senior guard Therial Davis (Georgetown, S.C.) added 23 points while McKenize and
senior guard Orvin
Holiday (Rembert, S.C.) each chipped in 13 points in the
losing effort.
The
Blue Hose (1-0) return to action on Thursday, November 18 as
they travel to Tigerville, S.C. to face the Crusades of North
Greenville College at 7:00 pm. The Yellow Jackets return to
action this weekend when they travel to Salisbury, N.C. to
participate in the Catawba College Tournament.
