PC’S VERSINSKAS LEADS BLUE HOSE 
PAST YELLOW JACKETS 90-69

COLUMBIA, SC — Presbyterian College redshirt freshman center Martynas Versinskas (Kaunas, Lithuania) scored a career-high 18 points and pulled down seven boards to lead four players in double figures as the Blue Hose rolled past the Yellow Jackets of Allen University on Wednesday night at the John Hurst Gymnasium.

The Blue Hose notched several season-highs on the night by shooting 69.8% from the field for the game including 80.0% in the second half. PC also shot 58.3% from three-point range as a team and 82.1% from the free throw line, but also turned the ball over 31 times.

PC opened the game on a 15-5 run in the first seven minutes as PC’s balanced offensive attack had five different score. The lead increased to its largest margin of the half at 32-12 at the 6:59 mark on a dunk by junior center Johann Collins (Raleigh, NC). The Yellow Jackets were able to cut the lead to 11 points at 34-23 on a three-pointer by guard Therial Davis at the 4:43 mark, but PC closed the half on a 10-3 run to take a 44-26 lead into intermission.

The Blue Hose shot 60.9% from the field in the first half while holding Allen to eight-of-28 shooting for 28.6%. Sophomore guard Sean Dixon (Marietta, GA) led the way with eight points and three assists for PC in the first stanza while Allen was led by Davis’ eight points on two-of-seven shooting from three-point land.

The second half saw the Blue Hose extend their lead to more than 20 points throughout the half and lead by its largest margin of 26 points at 64-38 on a layup by sophomore forward Grant Herren (Oviedo, FL) with 10:00 remaining in the game. PC played all 14 players on the roster in the game as the Yellow Jackets were never able to put together a run to cut the lead. Allen’s Davis cut the lead to 87-69 with :30 seconds remaining only to see PC’s freshman guard Braden Mayweather (Dacula, GA) hit a mid-court three-pointer at the buzzer to give PC the final points in their 90-69 victory.

Joining Versinskas for Blue Hose scoring honors was Collins and Dixon who each scored 16 points while freshman guard Pat Kiscaden (Oviedo, FL) added 11 points off the bench. PC dominated the backboards with a 46-22 advantage led by Collins’ game-high 10 boards.

Allen was led by Davis who tallied 17 points while guard Kelvin Mingo added 15 points and forward Timeke Mitchell chipped in 13 points.

PC improves to 13-7 on the season and will return to action on Saturday, February 5 as they host Mars Hill College at 4:00 pm. Allen drops to 0-16 on the season and hosts Voorhees College tomorrow night at 7:30 pm.
