PC’S COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AS EAGLES WIN 72-67

JEFFERSON CITY, TN — Marquise Foster (Greenville, S.C.) scored 18 points, including a key basket late in the game, as the Carson-Newman Eagles remained perfect in the SAC standings with a 72-67 win over Presbyterian College Blue Hose.

Trailing 67-66 late in the game, Foster ran the floor and took a pass from Braun Dabbs (Greeneville, Tenn.) and scored on a dunk, drawing the foul in the process. He calmly stepped to the line and sank the free throw to give C-N a 69-67 lead with 24 seconds remaining in the game. On the next PC inbounds play, freshman Andy Tipton (Maryville, Tenn.) forced a Blue Hose turnover and the Eagles hit their free throws to ice the win.

The Eagles built a 33-21 lead at the half and then padded their lead to 18 points at 44-26 on a Tipton three-pointer with 15:08 remaining in the game. But the Blue Hose made a furious comeback, outscoring the Eagles 19-4 over the next five minutes. Sean Dixon (Marietta, Ga.) gave PC the lead with two free throws with 41 seconds remaining in the game. But Foster’s dunk came on the next play and the momentum switched back to Carson-Newman.

Foster’s 18 points led the Eagles. Tipton added 14 points, 12 of which came from three-point range. Milo Johnson (Lake Alford, Fla.) had 13 points for C-N. Dixon led PC with 18 points and Johann Collins (Raleigh, N.C.) added 13 points for the Blue Hose.
