PC FALLS TO
MARS HILL IN SAC OPENER
Mars Hill, NC - Walt
Baxley (Winston-Salem, NC) scored a game high 30 points to
lift the Lions (7-8, 1-0) to a 82-65 victory over SAC rival
Presbyterian College (8-5, 0-1) this afternoon in Stanford
Arena. Baxley hit five 3-pointers in the contest and was
7-for-8 at the foul line.
The first half saw seven lead
changes and five ties. MHC took the lead (16-14) with
8:06 left in the opening period after Baxley hit a jumper.
The Lions took a seven point (37-30) lead into the locker room
at halftime.
PC tied the contest at 44-all
after Drew Biggs
(Alpharetta, GA) hit a shot from behind the arc with 15:21
left in the game. MHC then proceeded to go on a 22-to-7
run over the next 10 minutes of play to enjoy a 15-point
(66-51) advantage with 5:56 left in regulation.
The Lions led by as many as
19 points (82-63) after Baxley nailed a couple of foul shots
with 1:10 left on the clock. Johann
Collins (Raleigh, NC) hit a couple of foul shots for
the Blue Hose with 13 ticks left in the game to end the
scoring at 82-65.
The Lions scored 22 points off PC miscues and out rebounded
the Blue Hose 32-to-26. Both teams shot the ball well in
the game. MHC shot 50% (27-54) from the floor while PC
converted on 47.8% (22-46) of their field goal attempts.
Following Baxley's explosive
offensive performance, Kirby Lee (Fort Mill, SC) added 19
points draining four 3-pointers for the Lions. Jeremiah
Tinch (Calhoun Falls, SC) and Chris Aline (Reinach,
Switzerland) scored 12 and 10 points in the win, respectively.
Tinch also pulled down seven rebounds and had two blocks in
the game while Aline snatched five boards.
Collins led PC with 15 points
and six rebounds followed by Biggs with 14. Tray
Ballenger (Wellford, SC) scored 12 points and hauled
in seven rebounds. Sean
Dixon (Marietta, GA) had a solid game for the Blue
Hose scoring seven points and dishing out six assists.
MHC will host North Greenville College on Monday night at 7:00
p.m. PC will host Wingate University on Wednesday night
at 8:00 p.m.
