SHARKHEADS SPOIL BLUE HOSE EXHIBITION OPENER 92-80

CLINTON, S.C. — Former College of Charleston standout Jamel President scored a game-high 24 points to lead five players in double figures as the Columbia Sharkheads defeated Presbyterian College 92-80 in exhibition men’s basketball action Friday night at the Ross E. Templeton Center.

The Sharkheads came back from a six-point halftime deficit by shooting 58.6% from the field in the second half and used a 24-4 run over the first eight minutes to go ahead 66-52. The Blue Hose trimmed the lead to single digits on several occasions in the second half including only a five-point deficit of 75-70 with 7:37 remaining. Columbia closed out the game on a 17-10 run to take the 12-point victory.

The Blue Hose shot 54.8% in the first half and led by six at the break thanks in part to freshman guard Drew Biggs’ (Alpharetta, GA) 17 points on four-of-five shooting from beyond the arc.

PC junior center Johann Collins (Raleigh, NC) tallied 15 pints and five boards while sophomore guard Sean Dixon (Marietta, GA) added 13 points and three assists.

Joining President for scoring honors was former Blue Hose standouts Bret Jones, Ronnie Cannon, and Jason Cochcroft who tallied 19, 13, and 12 points apiece. Virginia Union standout Kadari Richards rounded out the double figures scorers with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Blue Hose open the 2004-05 regular season at home on Monday, November 15 as they host the Yellow Jackets of Allen University at 8:00 pm.
