SHARKHEADS
SPOIL BLUE HOSE EXHIBITION OPENER 92-80
CLINTON,
S.C. — Former
College of Charleston standout Jamel
President scored a game-high 24 points to lead five
players in double figures as the Columbia Sharkheads defeated
Presbyterian College 92-80 in exhibition men’s basketball
action Friday night at the Ross E. Templeton Center.
The
Sharkheads came back from a six-point halftime deficit by
shooting 58.6% from the field in the second half and used a
24-4 run over the first eight minutes to go ahead 66-52. The
Blue Hose trimmed the lead to single digits on several
occasions in the second half including only a five-point
deficit of 75-70 with 7:37 remaining. Columbia closed out the
game on a 17-10 run to take the 12-point victory.
The
Blue Hose shot 54.8% in the first half and led by six at the
break thanks in part to freshman guard Drew
Biggs’ (Alpharetta, GA) 17 points on four-of-five
shooting from beyond the arc.
PC
junior center Johann
Collins (Raleigh, NC) tallied 15 pints and five boards
while sophomore guard Sean Dixon (Marietta, GA) added 13
points and three assists.
Joining
President for scoring honors was former Blue Hose standouts Bret
Jones, Ronnie Cannon, and Jason
Cochcroft who tallied 19, 13, and 12 points apiece.
Virginia Union standout Kadari
Richards rounded out the double figures scorers with 16
points and 10 rebounds.
The
Blue Hose open the 2004-05 regular season at home on Monday,
November 15 as they host the Yellow Jackets of Allen
University at 8:00 pm.
