BLUE HOSE USE THREE-POINTER
IN 92-86 WIN AT TUSCULUM
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Sean
Dixon (Marietta, Ga.) recorded 18 points and a
career-high 12 assists to lead the Presbyterian College men's
basketball team to a 92-86 South Atlantic Conference win
Wednesday night at Alpine Arena.
The Blue Hose (17-9, 8-5 SAC) shot a season-best 63.6 percent
from three-point territory while tying a season-best 14
three-pointers. The Pioneers (14-10, 7-6 SAC) have their
five-game home winning streak snapped. Presbyterian
sweeps the season series and clinches to finish no worse than
third in the league race.
The game was tied 10 times and with the lead changing hands on
25 occasions, including the final time with 3:17 left as Pat
Kiscaden (Oviedo, Fla.) nailed a three-pointer to give
PC the lead for good at 85-83. Kiscaden finished the
night with 22 points off the bench shooting 8-for-10 from the
floor, including 6-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Tusculum freshman Jordan Lear (Zanesville, Ohio) had a
career night scoring 29 points on 9-for-16 shooting and fired
10-of-11 from the free throw line. Senior Greg
McIntosh (Indianapolis, Ind.) recorded his first career
double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Bobby
Ewing (Owensboro, Ky.) added 12 markers on his four
3-pointers.
Presbyterian jumped out to a 20-11 lead to open the game
following a lay-up by Brian
Epperly (Roanoke, Va.) at the 14:15 mark of the first
half. Tusculum followed with a 10 unanswered points
including three-pointers by Ewing and Donald Sexton
(Oneida, Tenn.) and a lay-up by McIntosh. TC would move
out to its biggest lead of the night at 32-27 with 6:17 before
intermission as McIntosh and Ewing connected on consecutive
three-pointers.
PC closed out the period with an 11-2 run, including eight
points by Kiscaden in the final two minutes of the period as
the Blue Hose carried a 48-40 lead into the locker room.
The Pioneers came out in the second period with a 14-5 spurt
to regain the lead at 54-53 capped off by McIntosh's
three-point play.
The lead would bounce back and forth with neither team moving
ahead by more than four points. TC grabbed its final
advantage at 81-79 following a pair of McIntosh free throws
with 3:55 left.
After Kiscaden's three to take the lead for the final time, PC
held Tusculum to one made field goal as the Pioneers shot
1-for-7 from the floor in the last three minutes of the game.
Tray Ballenger (Wellford,
S.C.) added 18 points and five rebounds for Presbyterian,
while Lear and Douglas Tshomba (Brussels, Belgium) each
finished with eight rebounds.
The Blue Hose shot 50.7 percent from the floor to Tusculum's
43.5 percent. The Pioneers edged PC on the boards by a
38-37 margin.
Both teams return home on Saturday for their respective
regular season finales. The Pioneers will host
Lenoir-Rhyne College while Presbyterian entertains league
front-runner Catawba College. Both games begin at 4 p.m.
