FORMER OVIEDO HIGH SCHOOL STANDOUTS HERREN & KISCADEN RETURN HOME TO LEAD THE BLUE HOSE IN THE 2005 DISNEY TIP-OFF CLASSIC

CLINTON, S.C. — Presbyterian College men’s basketball players Grant Herren and Pat Kiscaden will be returning to their native state of Florida on November 11-13 as their Blue Hose team will open the 2005-06 season at the 2005 Disney's Division II Tip-Off Classic held in Orlando, Fla.

Herren and Kiscaden are both natives of Oviedo, Fla, where they played their high school basketball at Oviedo High School for head coach Ed Kershner.

Herren, a 6-7, 225-pound junior forward, is a returning starter for the Blue Hose this season. Herren, who started 28 of 29 games in 2004-05, averaged 7.0 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.8 apg, while shooting 58.9% form the field and 63.8% from the free throw line for the Blue Hose.

“I'm extremely excited to open the season at the Disney tip-off classic,” said Herren. “It will be the first time we have ever played in Orlando, or even Florida for that matter since I've been at PC, and will be a great chance for all my friends and family back home to finally get a chance to watch me play college basketball.

“Many people have asked or questioned me if we would ever play in Florida knowing that PC is quite a long way to come from Orlando just to see a game. It's great that on our first trip to Florida we actually get to play at Disney’s Wide World of Sports, that will be like playing basketball in my own backyard and will be a great opportunity for my friends and family who aren't able to travel come see me play college basketball for the first time. I can't wait, It will be a homecoming game for Pat and myself.”

Kiscaden, a 6-3, 190-pound guard, will take over the starting duties at the shooting guard position this season. Kiscaden played in all 29 games last season with 10 starting assignments while averaging 7.8 ppg, 1.8 rpg, and 1.9 apg, and shot 39.5% from the field, 37.1% from three-point land, and 80.0% from the free throw line.

“I've been looking forward to playing at Disney since last year when I found out we were going,” said Kiscaden. “It will be fun to go home and play in front of my family and friends who haven't seen me play since high school. Hopefully our team will play well and win the tournament.”

The Blue Hose, under the direction of 17th-year head coach Gregg Nibert, return 12 letterwinners and six players that started at one point from last year’s team which compiled an 18-11 overall record. Nibert, the all-time winningest men’s basketball coach in the program’s history and a 1979 graduate of Marietta College, enters the 2005-06 campaign with a 16-year overall record of 282-187. The Blue Hose were recently picked to finish second in the race for the 2005-06 SAC regular season title behind Catawba College, based on a preseason coaches poll.

“We are very excited to have two quality student-athletes out of an excellent program like Oviedo High School,” said Nibert. “Coach Kershner’s players are fundamentally sound and are ready to play college basketball.”

“Grant knows the game so well it’s like having two point guards on the floor,” said Nibert. “He really understands the game and is an excellent passer and defender.”

“Pat is one of the best shooters I have ever coached,” said Nibert. “He is an excellent three-point shooter and free throw shooter.”

PC will open the 2005 Disney’s Division II Tip-Off Classic on Friday, November 11 against the University of Nebraska-Omaha at 6:30 pm. The Mavericks are coming off a 23-6 overall record in 2004-05 that included a trip to the NCAA Division II North Central Regional Tournament.
