PC’s Dixon And Herren Named All-SAC
ROCK HILL, SC –
Presbyterian senior men’s basketball players Sean Dixon and Grant Herren
were named to the 2006-07 South Atlantic Conference All-Conference team
it was announced by the league office on Monday.
Dixon
(Marietta, Ga.) was chosen to the first team, while Herren (Oviedo,
Fla.) was named to the second team.
The honor is
the second all-league nod for Dixon and his inaugural first team
selection, while Herren’s selection to the second team marks the first
time that he has received all-conference plaudits.
Dixon
joined Presbyterian's illustrious 1,000-point club with his 14-point
game in PC's win over Newberry earlier this season. Entering the Food
Lion SAC Tournament, Dixon now has 1, 083 points.
A
preseason All-SAC choice prior to this season, Dixon was named
all-league in 2005 and to the all-tournament team in 2006.
Dixon has averaged double-digits in scoring in three of his four seasons
at Presbyterian.
In the 2004-05 season, Dixon led the Blue Hose in scoring with 13.9
points-per-game and also led the squad in assists at 4.2 per-game. Dixon
scored in double figures 24 times during the 2004-05 season and led
Presbyterian in the scoring column in 14 games.
Last season Dixon scored 20 points in PC’s NCAA Division II tournament
victory over Armstrong Atlantic.
He finished the season averaging a team second-best 10.5
points-per-game. This season, Dixon is leading the team with 12.9 points
picked up per game.
He was named the SAC Player of the Week in late November.
Herren is a four-year starter for the Blue Hose. The forward has scored
968 points in his career and corralled 589 rebounds.
Named
the SAC Scholar Athlete of the Year at the conclusion of last season,
the Oviedo, Fla. native is second on the team this season in points at
10.9 points-per-game.
He is
also shooting a team-best 58% from the field this season.
He was
named the SAC Player of the Week three weeks ago after scoring a
career-best tying 25 points in PC’s pivotal overtime victory over
Lenoir-Rhyne at the Templeton Center.
Wingate
University junior guard Sean Barnette, who led the conference in scoring
at 21 points per game and ranked in the top 10 in seven other
statistical categories, was named the 2006-07 SAC Men's Player of the
Year.
Barnette led
the SAC in scoring at 21.0 points per game, and ranked among the league
top 10 leaders in rebounding, assists, free-throw percentage, 3-point
percentage, 3-pointers made, blocked shots and defensive rebounds.
Joining
Barnette and Dixon on the men's All-Conference First Team are Brian
Graves and Chris Wooldridge from Catawba, who helped lead the Catawba
Indians to the SAC regular-season title; Reggie Bratton from
Lenoir-Rhyne; Chris Poore from Tusculum and Justin Baker from Wingate. A
tie in the voting expanded the first team to seven members.
The men's
All-Conference Second Team includes Herren and consists of Kente Hart
from Carson-Newman; Josh Kindred from Lenoir-Rhyne; Clemente Martin from
Newberry; and Bryan Grier from Wingate.
Catawba's
Antonio Houston, a freshman from Charlotte, N.C. (East Mecklenburg HS)
who played a big part in the Indians' championship, was named Freshman
of the Year. He averaged 16.4 points, third best in the conference, and
was fifth in the league in 3-pointers made per game.
He was joined
on the All-Freshman Team by Jordan Dixon of Carson-Newman; Beau Brown of
Lincoln Memorial; Stoney Polite from Mars Hill and Kendrick Johnson from
Newberry.
Catawba coach
Jim Baker, who guided the Indians to the regular-season championship,
was named men's Coach of the Year. He wins this award for the fifth time
in his career.
