Basketball Standout Collins Signs Professional Contract
SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT – Former
Presbyterian standout Johann Collins recently signed a professional
basketball contract with the Vermont Frost Heaves of the American
Basketball Association (ABA).
A 2005-06 All-South Atlantic Conference first
team member, Collins graduated in May from Presbyterian with a degree in
business administration.
The 6-foot-11 center improved dramatically on
the hardwood each of his four seasons at PC and concluded last year with
the team lead in points-per-game (13.3), rebounds-per-contest (6.8) and
overall blocks (18) to help lead the Blue Hose to one of the best years
in program history.
PC finished the 2005-06 campaign at 25-10 and
advanced to the regional semifinals of the NCAA Division II Basketball
Tournament.
A native of Raleigh, N.C., Collins shot 54% from
the field his senior season.
The Frost Heaves are owned by Sports
Illustrated writer Alexander Wolff and are written about in the
magazine and on SI.com by the owner, who also happens to be the team’s
President and General Manager.
Vermont commenced preseason camp today and open
their 2006-07 season on the road at 7:05 p.m. on Nov. 10 against Quebec
City.
