Former PC Basketball Standout Collins Signs Professional Contract

SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT – Former Presbyterian standout Johann Collins recently signed a professional basketball contract with the Vermont Frost Heaves of the American Basketball Association (ABA).

A 2005-06 All-South Atlantic Conference first team member, Collins graduated in May from Presbyterian with a degree in business administration.

The 6-foot-11 center  improved dramatically on the hardwood each of his four seasons at PC and concluded last year with the team lead in points-per-game (13.3), rebounds-per-contest (6.8)  and overall blocks (18) to help lead the Blue Hose to one of the best years in program history.

PC finished the 2005-06 campaign at 25-10 and advanced to the regional semifinals of the NCAA Division II Basketball Tournament.

A native of Raleigh, N.C., Collins shot 54% from the field his senior season.

The Frost Heaves are owned by Sports Illustrated writer Alexander Wolff and are written about in the magazine and on SI.com by the owner, who also happens to be the team’s President and General Manager.

Vermont commenced preseason camp today and open their 2006-07 season on the road at 7:05 p.m. on Nov. 10 against Quebec City.
