L-R Pulls Away For League
Victory Over PC
HICKORY, N.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne used a 30-15 run to
close out the game to earn a 75-61 victory over Presbyterian in South
Atlantic Conference action at Shuford Gymnasium on Monday evening.
Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 2-1 in SAC play and 8-5
overall, while PC loses its first tilt in four games and its first
league game to end the night at 2-1 in conference play and 9-5 overall.
The Bears’ Josh Kindred (Holly Springs, N.C.) led
all scorers in the win with 20 total points. He was one of four L-R
players in double-figures, as Reggie Bratton (17), Marcus Springs (15)
and Tyler Boardman (10) all finished with 10 or above.
Presbyterian’s high scorer for the second straight
game finished with 10 points. Bryan Bostic (Norcross, Ga.) and Pat
Kiscaden (Oviedo, Fla.) both concluded their efforts with 10.
The Blue Hose held an early 12-8 advantage, but as
expected the contest commenced with neither team really being able to
pull away from each other.
Presbyterian was able to distance itself a little
in the early going due to five points from Pat Kiscaden, who helped
place the Blue Hose on top by five at 15-10.
PC continued to add on points, outscoring L-R 12-4
in the next few minutes to acquire a 24-12 lead with just over seven
minutes left in the first half.
The Bears would mount a 19-10 run at the end of the
first half to cut the lead to three at the end of the first stanza at
34-31 in favor of PC.
L-R opened the second half by cutting the lead to
one at 36-35. Presbyterian’s Drew Biggs (Alpharetta, Ga.) hit a
three-pointer PC’s next time down the court to put the Blue Hose back up
by four and negate the Bears’ thoughts of going on top.
The Bears would not quit, tying the game at 39-39.
PC’s Sean Dixon (Marietta, Ga.) hit a trey for his first field goal of
the game on Presbyterian’s next possession to give the Blue Hose the
lead once again at 42-39.
The Bears fought back and took the lead for the
first time in the second half at 45-44 with just under 13 minutes left
in the game. Martynas Versinskas (Kaunas, Lithunia) hit a layup on PC’s
next possession to acquire the lead back for Presbyterian.
Lenoir-Rhyne eventually regained the lead, pulling
away for the 14-point victory.
Presbyterian will next welcome new league member
Lincoln Memorial to the Templeton Center on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Tip-off
is scheduled for 8 p.m.
Lenoir-Rhyne will square off against Newberry on
the same day at 8 p.m. at Shuford Gymnasium.
