Opens Season With Win Over Lander
CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian opened its
2006-07 campaign with a 69-63 victory over Lander before a crowd of 753
at the Templeton Center on Wednesday evening.
The Blue Hose were led in the contest by Bryan
Bostic, who came within one rebound short of a double-double. The
Norcross, Ga. native had a team-high 15 points and nine boards.
Bostic shot exactly 50% from the field in the
victory, going 6-for-12.
PC guard Sean Dixon (Marietta, Ga.) finished the
contest with 11 points and two assists in 28 minutes of action.
Center Martynas Versinskas (Kaunas, Lithuania)
had a game-high tying three assists in the contest. Lander’s Michael
Griffin also had three dimes.
Presbyterian opened the game by scoring the
inaugural seven points in the game, holding Lander scoreless for almost
four minutes before they scored at the 16:11 mark on a Brenton Harris
layup to make the score 7-2.
The two tangled closely for the entire first half
with Presbyterian holding a 40-38 advantage at the conclusion of the
first stanza.
Lander’s Jarred Jackson nailed a three-point shot
at the outset of the second half to give the Bearcats a 41-40 lead. It
would be the last lead of the evening for Lander as Presbyterian went on
a game-high 11-0 run to take a 51-41 lead.
The Bearcats would get as close as five at 68-63
in the final minute of the game, but Presbyterian held on and used a
Travis Sligh (Columbia, S.C.) free throw with 1.5 seconds left in the
contest to set the final tally at 69-63 in favor of the Blue Hose.
Lander was led in the loss by Jackson’s game-high
24 points.
Presbyterian improves to 1-0 with the win, while
Lander falls to 0-1. The Blue Hose square off against upstate rival
North Greenville at the Templeton Center next Tuesday, Nov. 21.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
