Men’s Basketball Signs Two
CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian head
basketball coach Gregg Nibert recently announced the signing of two
student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Post player Al’lonzo
Coleman will join the Blue Hose from the Charlotte, N.C. area, while
Josh Johnson comes to the PC program from North Atlanta Prep Academy.
Coleman comes to the Blue Hose program from Vance
High School in Charlotte, N.C. where he plays for Will Robinson. The
6-foot-7, 225-pound post player averaged 10 points, eight rebounds and
2.5 blocks as a junior for Vance, who advanced to the semifinals of the
North Carolina 4-A State Tournament in the 2005-06 season.
“We are very excited to sign a player of
Coleman’s caliber from a great high school program like Vance,” noted
Nibert. “Coach Robinson has done a great job of developing Al’lonzo. He
has great moves on the block, can shoot the three and is a tremendous
defender and rebounder inside. He should have an immediate impact in our
program.”
Johnson is playing this season at North Atlanta
Prep Academy after graduating from Hendersonville High School in
Hendersonville, Tenn. in 2006. A 6-foot-3, 190-pound wing, Johnson
averaged 17 points, five rebounds and two steals per game his senior
season at Hendersonville.
Johnson garnered all-district and all-county
plaudits as a senior in leading his team to a 22-3 mark.
“Josh is an outstanding player and student who we
are thrilled to have join us at Presbyterian College,” remarked Nibert.
“His athleticism and ability to shoot the three make him a constant
threat on the wing. He is also a fierce competitor with a good
understanding of how to play the game and contribute right away for our
team.”
Presbyterian’s current team opens its 2006-07
campaign at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15 against Lander in Clinton, S.C.
at the Templeton Center.
