                                  PC Dominates Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. – Presbyterian College dominated
Newberry in every facet of the game in a 60-29 victory
in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action
on Wednesday evening at Elezear Arena on the campus of
Newberry College.

The victory sets up a final regular season game
showdown with Catawba at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24
for supremacy in the SAC. Both teams at 12-3 are
currently tied for first in the league.

Recently ranked fifth in the South Atlantic region of
the NCAA Division II rankings, Presbyterian (19-3,
12-3 SAC) extends its season-high winning streak to
nine games with the victory over Newberry.

In what may be the final time that the two teams will
take the hardwood Presbyterian concludes the all-time
series with a 56-34 lead.

In the two games between the teams this season the
Blue Hose outscored the Indians 130-72.

The Blue Hose were led offensively in the contest by
Drew Biggs, who finished with a game-high 13 points.
He was one of two Blue Hose in double digits as Sean
Dixon finished the game with 10 points for the Blue
Hose.

The two teams started the game with neither really
finding a great amount of rhythm, but Presbyterian
garnered a six-point advantage by the first media
timeout of the game at 15-9.

The Blue Hose then held the Indians scoreless for a
nine-minute span in the first half to extend their
lead to 18 points at 27-9.

In total, the Blue Hose outscored the Indians 16-4 in
the final nine-plus minutes of the first half to take
a 20-point lead into halftime at 33-13.

The Blue Hose held the Indians to 22% shooting in the
first half, allowing just four field goals by Newberry
in the process.

The 13 points scored by Newberry were the least points
given up by the Blue Hose in a half this season.

Two players were perfect from the field in the half to
lead the Blue Hose offensively. Biggs was a perfect
3-for-3, including two out of two from three-point
range to finish the half with eight points. Teammate
Ryan Lamb was 3-for-3 from the field to end the first
stanza with seven points.

The Blue Hose began the second half the same way they
played for most of the first, opening the second and
final stanza by holding the Indians scoreless for the
first five minutes of the half before Tommy Burke hit
a layup for Newberry with just under 15 minutes left
in the game to put the Indians on the scoreboard in
the half.

The Blue Hose outscored the Indians 15-7 over the
first nine minutes of the half to take a 28-point lead
at 48-20.
