PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN FINISH SECOND AND MEN SIXTH AT
FRANCIS MARION UNIVERSITY INVITATIONAL
PC women win Palmetto State Championship

FLORENCE, S.C. — The Presbyterian College women’s team placed three runners in the top 15 to finish second at the 16th-annual Francis Marion University Invitational Meet, Saturday (Sept. 27) morning in Florence, while the Blue Hose men finished sixth with three runners placing in the top 30.

Participating schools from South Carolina also simultaneously scored a Palmetto State Championship Meet, with Spartanburg Methodist taking the men’s title and Presbyterian College earning the women’s championship. FMU was third in the men’s race and fifth in the women’s event.

Travis Smith of USC Spartanburg won the men’s individual title as he toured the 8,000-meter course in 26:20. Presbyterian’s freshman Thad Palmer (Union, S.C.) led the Blue Hose by finishing 20th. Francis Marion’s sophomore Nicole Hoeppner won the women’s 5,000-meter race in 19:52. Presbyterian’s senior Tanith Forrester (Lexington, S.C.) finished third with a time of 20:24.
