ELLIOTT’S SECOND PLACE FINISH LEADS BLUE HOSE TO THIRD AT LANDER INVITATIONAL  

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men’s cross country team competed at the 15th Annual Lander University/Connie Maxwell Invitational on Saturday morning and placed third in the eight-team field with 99 points.  Junior Matthew Elliott (Green Sea, S.C.) led the Blue Hose with his second-place finish in 27:15, 11 seconds behind the race winner.

Anderson College took home the men’s team title with a low score of 43 points as the Trojans had four runners place in the Top 15.  Anderson’s Ethan Schaffner claimed the individual title with his time of 27:04 on the 8K-course.  Fellow South Atlantic Conference member, Newberry College, finished eighth with 191 points.

Also placing in the Top 15 for PC was senior Nicholas Williams (Greenwood, S.C.) who ran the course in 29:31 to take 13th, while junior Thad Palmer (Union, S.C.) came in 15th with his time of 30:08.

The Blue Hose will return to action on Saturday, September 17 when Presbyterian College travels to Rock Hill, S.C. to compete in the Winthrop University/Asics Invitational.  The men’s race is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m.
