PC Hires Palmer As Cross Country Coach
CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian
College Director of Athletics Dr. William B. “Bee” Carlton
announced the hiring of Thad Palmer as PC’s new men’s and
women’s cross country coach.
“We are pleased to add Thad Palmer to
our coaching staff,” said Carlton. “Thad brings a love of
the sport and understanding of the needs of the team to this
position. He is thoughtful and conscientious and will bring
new ideas to the training of the team.
“Additionally, adding Palmer to the staff allows Coach
Stephanie Allen to focus fully on coaching the women's
lacrosse team. For the last three years, Coach Allen has
done an outstanding job in leading both groups. This
addition of a cross country coach will give both Coach Allen
and Coach Palmer the ability to give more time to each
squad. Thus each of these teams can work more efficiently
toward their respective competitive goals.”
Palmer
takes over as coach, but is not new to the program having
ran for the Blue Hose for the past four seasons.
He was a consistent top finisher for
the Blue Hose men’s team and helped lead them to a school
record five second place finishes in 2006.
In
addition to his duties in charge of the PC cross country
programs, Palmer will also serve as a Sports Information
Assistant to Director of Sports Information and Game
Operations Brian Hand.
Palmer
will assist Hand in the day-to-day duties of the sports
information, focusing on gameday operations. He will work
with each of Presbyterian’s 16 intercollegiate sports to
make sure that they have everything they need to place the
Blue Hose’s gameday experience in the upper echelon in every
category.
A 2007 graduate of Presbyterian
College, Palmer was a four-year letterwinner in cross
country for the Blue Hose.
Palmer graduated cum laude from PC with
a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Accounting. In 2006,
Palmer was named to the All-SAC Academic Honor Roll.
A native of Union, S.C., Palmer was a
standout runner at Union High School, where he ran for Mike
Massey.
