Blue Hose Harriers Take Second and Third at Erskine Invitational

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Presbyterian College cross country teams finished the regular season with a strong outing at the Erskine College Invitational on Thursday afternoon.  The men tied for second with host Erskine with 93 points as the Blue Hose had a pair of Top 15 finishes.  The Lady Blue Hose finished third with 100 points and a pair of Top 20 placements. 

MEN
For the first time this season, senior Thad Palmer (Union, S.C.) was Presbyterian’s top finisher.  Palmer placed 10th with his personal best time of 28:35.  It was the first time since his freshman year that Palmer has been the Blue Hose top finisher at a meet.  Freshman Adam Harris (Atlanta, Ga.) came in 15th with his time of 28:45.

Senior Matt Elliott (Green Sea, S.C.) was the squad’s third finisher as Elliott rolled in 19th in 29:05 followed by freshman Hunter Barnhardt (Roanoke, Va.) in 24th in 29:27.

Senior Nate Price (Atlanta, Ga.) took 33rd with his time of 30:23, while freshman Hunter Pilot (Point Clear, Ala.) was 61st in 34:26.

Wingate University claimed the team title with a low of 46 points and five Top 20 finishes, while Jayce Watson of Wingate took individual honors as Watson finished the 8K-course in 26:11.

WOMEN
Sophomore Lauren Bowers (Rock Hill, S.C.) came in first for Presbyterian, finishing 10th in 21:32.  Freshman Kristi Tempel (Aiken, S.C.) took 18th as Tempel ran a time of 22:26.

The third top finisher for the Blue Hose was senior Tina DeYoe (Palm Coast, Fla.), placing 24th in 22:52.  Sophomore Morgan Bennight (Charlotte, N.C.) was next in 23:29 for the 30th spot, while senior Kathryn Gregory (Buffalo, S.C.) claimed the 33rd in 23:42.

Following Gregory was junior Ashley Kieffer (Thomasville, Ga.) in 47th in 24:39.  Senior Chris Roberts (Cornelius, N.C.) came in 56th with her time of 25:45, while senior Kari Koch (Conyers, Ga.) was 59th in 26:42.

The Wingate women also claimed the team title with five Top 20 finishes, including first and third, and a low 42 points.  Wingate’s Amber Hines won the 5K-race in 19:33.

Presbyterian will back in action next Saturday at the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships in Asheville, N.C.
