PC Cross
Country Compete at Eye Opener
Blue Hose
Men Finish 8th out of 22 Teams
SPARTANBURG, S.C. –
Senior Matt Elliott (Green Sea, S.C.) came in 11th
out of 172 Division II runners and led the Presbyterian
College men’s cross country team to an eighth-place finish
with 244 points on Saturday morning at the 23rd
Annual Eye Opener Meet at the Milliken Research Center. At
the same meet, the Lady Blue Hose placed in the middle of
the pack, as PC took 13th out of 24 squads with
339 points.
MEN
In a field peppered with Division I, II, and NAIA runners,
Elliott ran the 8K course in 27:44 to finish 11th
among the Division II runners and 14th in the
overall field. Freshman Adam Harris (Atlanta, Ga.) was PC’s
next top finisher as Harris came in 39th in 28:50
followed by senior Thad Palmer (Union, S.C.) in 48th
place with his time of 29:09.
Senior Nate Price (Atlanta, Ga.) took 61st for
the Blue Hose in 29:33, while sophomore Matt Morrisette (Mt.
Pleasant, S.C.) was 83rd and freshman Hunter
Barnhardt (Roanoke, Va.) came in 98th. Freshman
Hunter Pilot (Point Clear, Ala.) finished the race in 109th
place.
The
men’s 8K was won by fellow South Atlantic Conference member,
Mars Hill College, with 74 points as MHC’s senior Jon Stoehr
claimed the individual race in 26:14.
WOMEN
For the second consecutive week, sophomore Lauren Bowers
(Rock Hill, S.C.) paced the Blue Hose to a 13th-place
finish in the women’s 5K as Bowers finished 33rd
in 21:18. Following six seconds behind Bowers was freshman
Kristi Tempel (Aiken, S.C.), placing 38th.
Senior Kathryn Gregory (Buffalo, S.C.) placed 79th
in 22:41 with senior Tina DeYoe (Palm Coast, Fla.) right
behind her for 84th place in 22:44.
Junior Ashley Kieffer (Thomasville, Ga.) was the next
finisher for PC as Kieffer took 96th, senior
Chris Roberts (Cornelius, N.C.) was 119th, and
sophomore Morgan Bennight (Charlotte, N.C.) finished 123rd.
Rounding out the PC harriers was senior Kari Koch (Conyers,
Ga.) and freshman Ali Carney (North Syracuse, N.Y.) 149th
and 154th, respectively.
Both
Blue Hose squads will compete next Saturday, Sept. 16, at
the Winthrop University/Asics Invitational in Rock Hill,
S.C. The men’s race will be first at 9 a.m. followed by the
women at 10 a.m.
