Blue Hose Cross Country Successful at Lander Invitational

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams had successful outings at the 16th Annual Lander University/Connie Maxwell Invitational on Saturday morning.  The men finished second out of seven and the women came in third out of nine teams.

MEN
The Blue Hose placed two runners in the Top 10 with senior Matthew Elliott (Green Sea, S.C.) coming in third in 27:45 and freshman Adam Harris (Atlanta, Ga.) seventh in 28:21 as the team finished in second with 61 points.  Senior Thad Palmer (Union, S.C.) was 13th for PC with his time of 29:08, while senior Nate Price (Atlanta, Ga.) placed 17th in 29:33.  Sophomore Matt Morrisette and freshman Hunter Pilot came in 21st and 22nd, respectively.

The men’s 8K was won by Anderson University who posted a low 31 points with four runners in the Top 10, including Nathan Parsons finishing second in 27:28.  Individually, John Sell of Erskine College captured the first-place finish in 27:22. 

WOMEN
Newcomer Lauren Bowers (Rock Hill, S.C.) paced the Blue Hose to a third-place finish in the women’s 5K, finishing fourth in 21:03.  The Top 10 finisher for PC was freshman Kristi Tempel (Aiken, S.C.) who came in ninth with her time of 21:29.  Senior Kathryn Gregory (Buffalo, S.C.) placed 15th in 22:13.

Senior Tina DeYoe (Palm Coast, Fla.) came in 23rd in 23:20, sophomore Morgan Bennight (Charlotte, N.C.) was 29th with a time of 23:56, junior Ashley Kieffer (Thomasville, Ga.) placed 33rd (24:11) and freshman Ali Carney (Syracuse, N.Y.) 40th (25:03).  Rounding out the PC harriers were Chris Roberts (Cornelius, N.C.) and Kari Koch (Conyers, Ga.) in 45th and 52nd, respectively.

The Blue Hose return to action next Saturday, Sept. 9, as PC will compete in the 23rd Annual Eye Opener Meet at the Milliken Research Center in Spartanburg, S.C.
