WINGATE, N.C. – Presbyterian College concluded its 2006 men’s cross country season on Saturday morning at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional hosted by Wingate University.  The Blue Hose bested their team finish from a year ago by one spot as Presbyterian claimed the 12th spot in the 16-team field with 301 points.

Senior Matthew Elliott (Green Sea, S.C.) finished the 6.2-mile, 10K course in 35:18 for 43rd-place out of 120 entrants.  Elliott, running in his final collegiate race, knocked off two minutes from his time in 2005 and placed five spots higher.

The next finisher for PC was freshman Adam Harris (Atlanta, Ga.) as Harris came in 58th with his time of 36:06.  Senior Thad Palmer (Union, S.C.) followed Harris for the 62nd spot in 36:21.  Palmer bettered his time from last year by 1:25.

Along with Elliott and Palmer, senior Nate Price (Atlanta, Ga.) was running in his last collegiate race.  Price ran the course in 37:50, taking 1:32 of his 2005 time.  His time earned him a 78th-place finish.

Freshman Hunter Barnhardt (Roanoke, Va.) was 81st in 38:06, while sophomore Matt Morrisette (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) took 92nd in 39:06.  Freshman Hunter Pilot (Point Clear, Ala.) finished 97th in 39:58.

St. Andrews Presbyterian College had three runners earn all-region honors to help pace the Knights to the NCAA Division II Men’s Cross Country Southeast Region Championship title, narrowly beating top-ranked Mars Hill College by three points.

St. Andrews, who had four runners in the top 20, won its first-ever Southeast Region title and receives their second straight bid to the NCAA National Championships with 94 points.  St. Andrews fifth-year head coach Gary Aycock was named the Southeast Region Coach of the Year.

Mars Hill also gets an automatic bid to nationals by finishing second with 97 points.  The Lions will make their fifth consecutive trip to the national meet.  Mars Hill senior Jon Stoehr, the 2006 SAC Champion, passed Wingate sophomore Jayce Watson late to claim Southeast Region Runner of the Year honors.  Stoehr finished the 10K race in 32 minutes and 19 seconds, while Watson crossed the finish line one second later at 32:20.
