Blue Hose Harriers Compete at SAC Championships

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. – The Presbyterian College cross country teams made the trek to Black Mountain Recreation Park in N.C. to compete in the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships.

MEN
The Blue Hose finished fifth with 137 points and one Top 10 finisher.

Senior Matthew Elliott (Green Sea, S.C.) earned all-conference honors for the second year in a row as Elliott finished the 8K course in 27:44 for an eighth-place finish and a spot on the second team.  Last year, Elliott made the All-SAC first team after coming in seventh.

Freshman Adam Harris (Atlanta, Ga.) came in 26th-place, running the race in 29:05.80.  Harris just missed making the SAC All-Freshman Team as only the first five freshmen to cross the finish line are named to the squad and he was the eighth one to place.

The third finisher for the Blue Hose was senior Thad Palmer (Union, S.C.).  Palmer took 29th as he completed the course in 29:39.  Freshman Hunter Barnhardt (Roanoke, Va.) claimed the 36th spot in 30:10.40, while senior Nate Price (Atlanta, Ga.) was 38th with his time of 30:41.

Sophomore Matt Morrisette (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) placed 42nd in 31:28.40, while freshman Hunter Pilot (Point Clear, Ala.) crossed the finish line in 32:00.70 for 48th place.

Mars Hill College won their 10th consecutive team title with a low 38 points as five Lion runners finished in the Top 15.  Senior Jon Stoehr of Mars Hill claimed the individual title with his time of 26:33.79 and earned SAC Male Runner of the Year honors for his efforts.

WOMEN
The women had a disappointing finish, coming in eighth in the team standings with 183 points.

Presbyterian’s top finisher all year long claimed the 25th spot as sophomore Lauren Bowers (Rock Hill, S.C.) finished the 5K-course in 21:42.20.  In her first year of competition for PC, Bowers just missed SAC All-Freshman honors by two spots as she was the seventh rookie to cross the finish line and only five are named to the squad.

Senior Tina DeYoe (Palm Coast, Fla.) was the second top placer for the Blue Hose as DeYoe placed 27th, coming in 12 seconds (21:54.20) behind Bowers.  Freshman Kristi Tempel (Aiken, S.C.) took 37th as Tempel ran a time of 22:25.90.

Sophomore Morgan Bennight (Charlotte, N.C.) finished the race in 24:04.20 for the 46th spot, while junior Ashley Kieffer (Thomasville, Ga.) claimed the 48th spot in 24:51.  Senior Chris Roberts (Cornelius, N.C.) came in 49th with her time of 25:06.50, while senior Kari Koch (Conyers, Ga.) was 52nd in 25:47.40.

The Mars Hill women also claimed the team title as the Lions have now won eight straight in the last 10 years.  Mars Hill scored a low 53 points with three Top 10 finishes.  Wingate University’s sophomore Amber Hines won the 5K-race in 19:39 to earn SAC Female of the Year honors.

Presbyterian’s next race will be Saturday, November 4 as the Blue Hose compete at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional hosted by Wingate University in Wingate, N.C.
