ADDISON ANNOUNCES HIS RETIREMENT AS MEN’S GOLF COACH AT PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE

CLINTON, S.C. — Presbyterian College officials announced today that Tommy Addison would retire at the end of this season as head coach of the college’s men’s golf program. Addison is currently in his 13th season at the helm of the men’s golf program.

“Please allow me to thank, Coach Cally Gault for giving me the opportunity to coach at Presbyterian College, and to Allen Morris for his support and guidance.” said Addison. “Also my deepest gratitude and appreciation to those who have contributed to our program. Without their help, our successes would not have been possible. Finally, thank you to my players for putting up with me for the past 13 years. A person is only as good as those with whom he surrounds himself. I have been blessed.”

During his tenure with the Blue Hose, Addison has developed the program into a contender on the regional and national level. The program has been ranked nationally for over a decade and has won six Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships (1996, ’97, ’01. ‘02. ’03, & ’05) along with winning numerous regular season tournament titles. In addition, he has led the program to nine trips to the NCAA regional tournaments including this season. He has coached 36 student-athletes that earned All-South Atlantic Conference honors as well as three SAC Player of the Year selections, four SAC Freshman of the Year selections, six SAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year  selections, and three Food Lion SAC Tournament MVP selections. In addition, he coached four All-Americans, four all-region selections, and three academic All-Americans. Addison has been named SAC Coach of the Year four times as head coach of the Blue Hose with his fourth honor coming this spring.

"I was disappointed to learn about Coach Addison’s decision; at the same time I am delighted for him and his family," said Director of Athletics, Bee Carlton. "It is difficult to lose such a fine man and experienced coach from our staff, but I know he and his family look forward to this new phase of their lives. Tommy is a classmate and friend whom I have known for many years. He is a fine gentleman, loving husband and father and is a highly talented player and skilled coach.  He has given immeasurably of himself to PC and the golf program to make it successful from its inception. Coach Addison’s love for PC and the PC golf team will be very, very hard to replace. We all wish Tommy and Kay well and wish them both success and happiness far into the future.”

Addison has led the Blue Hose this season to four top 10 finishes including a pair of victories at the Richard Rendleman Intercollegiate on March 7-8 and the 2005 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship earlier this week.

Carlton said a search will begin immediately for a replacement.
