HOSE FINISH SIXTH AT THE
2005 NCAA SOUTHEAST GOLF SUPER REGIONAL
COLUMBUS, GA — Presbyterian College shot a final round 318 today to finish in sixth place at the Southeast Regional of the NCAA Division II Atlantic/Southeast Super Regional at Bull’s Creek West Course. Defending national champion USC Aiken shot a final round 297, to win their second straight Southeast Region title with a three-day score of 887.
The Pacers won the regional by four strokes over Armstrong Atlantic State University who shot a final round score of 299 to finish at 891. Georgia College & State University finished third at 914 followed by host Columbus State University (918), Francis Marion University (924), Presbyterian College (953), North Greenville College (961), and UNC Pembroke (970). Georgia College, Columbus State, and Francis Marion all qualified for the national tournament while the Pacers go as region champion. All four teams will participate in the 2005 NCAA Division II Tournament held in Savannah, GA on May 17-20 at The Club at Savannah Harbor.
USC
Aiken’s Scott Brown
won the individual title with a three-round score of even par
216 including a final round 73. Brown outpaced teammate Dane
Burkhart who shot 217 for the title while AASU’s Jonathan Cox finished third at 220. AASU’s Chris Epperson and CSU’s Christian
Ries tied for fourth at 221. UNCP’s Greg
Dobbins finished sixth at 223 and qualified as an
individual for the national tournament.
The Blue Hose were led by Co-SAC Player of the Year selection, junior Jimi Brindell (Tequesta, FL) who is tied for 28th at 238 followed by freshman Hugh Morrison (Macon, GA), the SAC Co-Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year selection, to finished tied for 31st with a three-round score of 239. Sophomore Ben Karns (Gaffney, SC), a second team All-SAC selection, was tied for 33rd with a 241 followed by freshman Wes Herlong (Johnston, SC) with a 246 while sophomore Patrick Townes (Summerville, SC) has a three-day score of 251, including a final round 76.
