COLLEGE HOLDS A FOUR STROKE LEAD AFTER FIRST DAY OF THE 2005
FOOD LION/SOUTH ATLANTIC CONFERENCE MEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP HICKORY,
N.C. - Presbyterian College shot an opening day score of
586 to take a four-stroke lead into tomorrow's final round of
the 2005 Food Lion/South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf
Championship held today at the 6,610-yard, par 72 Lake Hickory
Country Club at Catawba Springs. The
Blue Hose shot an opening round 296 and followed up with a
tournament-low round of 290 to pull ahead of Carson-Newman
College, who shot a two-round score of 590. Catawba College is
third at 598 that included a second round score of 291.
Tusculum College is fourth (603), followed by Wingate
University (606), Newberry College (610), Lenoir-Rhyne College
(614), and Mars Hill College (637). Individually,
Carson-Newman's Tanner Davis leads the way with a two-round
score of 140 after shooting rounds of 69 and 71 on the day.
Three players are tied at 145 including Tusculum's Chris
Wynne, PC's Hugh Morrison, and Catawba's Blair Matthews. The
Eagles' Davis shot the low round in the morning session with a
69, but PC's Jimi Brindell finished the second round with a
score of 68. The
final round will take place tomorrow. Other
