Pirates Hold One Stroke Lead At AASU/Southbridge Invitational
Blue Hose T-5th with USC Upstate after first round

SAVANNAH, Ga. – No. 6-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State fired a first-round 290 and leads the AASU/Southbridge Pirate Invitational by one stroke over No. 20-ranked Barry University on Monday at the par-72, 7028-yard Southbridge Golf Club course in Savannah.

The host Pirates are at two-over-par, just one stroke better than Barry, who shot a three-over-par 291 on Monday. No. 21-ranked Coker sits in third after a 12-over-par 300, while ninth-ranked Columbus State is in fourth place after a 13-over-par 301. Two teams are tied for fifth place as USC Upstate and Presbyterian each shot 14-over-par 304 totals.

A duo of Barry University players fired two-under-par 70s on the day and are tied for the individual lead. Victor Billskoog carded two 35s on each nine for the Bucs, while John Quigley blistered the front nine with a 33, then came back with a 37 on the back nine to match Billskoog at 70. Senior Tripp Coggins is just one stroke back for the Pirates after a one-under-par 71, while a trio of players are just two strokes back after shooting even-par 72s – Vincent Dunocel of Coker, AASU freshman Justin Smith and defending champion Brandon Kuban of Columbus State.

Presbyterian was led by sophomore Hugh Morrison who carded a 74 in the opening round and is T-8th. Senior Jimi Brindell, and juniors Patrick Townes, and Ben Karns are all T-21st with opening rounds of 76. Sophomore Wes Herlong added a first day total of 81.

Play concludes on Tuesday in the 12-team field with tee times beginning at 7:45 a.m.
