PRESBYTERIAN MEN’S GOLF FINISHES EIGHTH AT BOBCAT INVITATIONAL

EATONTON, GA – Teammates Scott Brown and Roberto Diaz shared medalist honors and helped two-time defending national champion USC Aiken continue its dominant play by winning the 2006 Bobcat Invitational hosted by Georgia College & State University at the Gulf Club at Cuscowilla.  The Pacers shot a final round 296 on Tuesday to finish on top in the 16-team field with a three-round score of 877, holding off second place Rollins College (885) by eight strokes.  Presbyterian College finished eighth overall with a 913, while host GCSU came in tenth with a 916.

Diaz shot three straight rounds of 71, while Brown added a 73 on Tuesday to go along with his 73 and 67 on Monday. Both finished with identical three-over par scores of 213 on the Par 70 course.  The duo opted to share medalist honors rather than compete in a play-off.  Dane Burkart (77,73,74) finished tied for 16th with a 224, while Matt Giftos (77,72,79) rounded out the top four for the Pacers with a 228 to finish tied for 28th.

Florida Southern’s Marc France shot a 72 on Tuesday to finish one stroke off the pace with a second place 214.

USC Aiken shot rounds of 298, 283 and 296 for its 877, while Rollins shot 292, 293 and 300 to finish at 885. Florida Southern was third with an 886 after shooting 297 on Tuesday, while West Florida was fourth at 894 after shooting 296 in the final round. Valdosta State rounded out the top five with a three-round 895 after taking a 295 on Tuesday.

PC’s sophomore Hugh Morrison (Macon, Ga.) was top finisher for the Blue Hose as Morrison finished tied for 12th with a three-round score of 222 after shooting an 82 and a 69 on Monday and a 71 on Tuesday.  Junior Ben Karns (Gaffney, S.C.) placed tied for 16th with his score of 224 following rounds of 76, 70, and 78, while junior Patrick Townes (Summerville, S.C.) came in tied for 40th with a score of 231 (79, 75, 77).  Freshmen Andy Karns (Gaffney, S.C.) and Rob Varner (Columbus, Ga.) finished tied for 55th with a score of 236 and 66th with a score of 240, respectively.

GCSU had the low round on Tuesday with a 291 to move up two spots to tenth place.  Juan Bialet led the Bobcats, tied for sixth overall, with rounds of 75, 75 and 70 to finish with a ten-over 220. Johan Cronvall also cracked the top ten for the Bobcats, tied for 16th place, with rounds of 71, 79 and 74 for a 224.

The Blue Hose return to action on April 10-11 as they compete at the 2006 South Atlantic Conference Tournament hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne College at the Lake Hickory Country Club at Catawba Springs in Hickory, N.C.
