PC MEN’S GOLF 12TH FOLLOWING FIRST DAY OF THE AFLAC/COUGAR INVITATIONAL

COLUMBUS, GA — Presbyterian College posted opening day scores of 295 and 300 for a score of 595 to place 12th following the first day of action at the 2005 AFLAC/Cougar Invitational held Monday at the Country Club of Columbus.

Two-time defending Division II national champion USC Aiken fired rounds of 278 and 284 to take a twelve stroke lead over Armstrong Atlantic State University (574), while Pfeiffer University and the University of West Florida are tied for third at 580. Rounding out the top five was Georgia College & State University at 581.

PC was led by the play of freshman Rob Varner(Columbus, Ga.) who carded rounds of 69 and 75 on Monday to place tied for 15th entering today’s final round. Junior Ben Karns (Gaffney, S.C.) is tied for 30th with a 147, followed by freshman Taylor Thomas (Columbus, Ga.) who is tied for 45th with a score of 150 while junior Aaron Kersey (Lexington, N.C.) is tied for 68th with a score of 155 and freshman Andy Karns (Gaffney, S.C.) is tied for 79th with a score of 156.

Final round will take place on Tuesday.
