PC Ranked 25th In Latest GCAA/Bridgestone NCAA Division II Poll

NORMAN, Okla. — Presbyterian ranked 25th in the final GCAA/Bridgestone NCAA Division II Coaches Poll of the fall.

The Blue Hose are the only ranked squad in the South Atlantic Conference and the second highest in the state of South Carolina. Three-time defending NCAA Division II men’s golf champion USC-Aiken is ranked ninth.

Presbyterian finished as high as second overall in its fall season as a team. The Blue Hose concluded the Coker Invitational with a second-place showing.

Individually, Patrick Townes was the catalyst for PC in the fall. Townes finished second overall at the Coker Invitational with a two-day total of 140.

In the four tournaments over the fall season for the Blue Hose, Townes averaged a team-best 72.67 and tied for the team lead with Ben Karns (Coker Invitational) for lowest single round score at 69, which he garnered at the Aflac/Cougar Invitational in Columbus, Ga.

Hugh Morrison was almost as consistent as Townes through his nine rounds in the fall. Morrison in PC’s four events acquired a stroke average of 73.89.

Presbyterian has finished its fall campaign and is now in the midst of preparing for the spring season.

Columbus State earned seven first-place votes to stay No. 1 in the GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll. CSU has been the poll’s top-ranked team in Division II men’s golf the entire fall season.

West Florida grabbed five first-place votes to edge Florida Southern - who had one first-place ballot - for second. CSU-Stanislaus tallied the final first-place nod and is ranked fourth. Barry moved up one place to fifth. St. Edward’s climbed up five spots to sixth while Abilene Christian jumped eight places to seventh. Florida Gulf Coast debuted in the ranking at eighth. South Carolina-Aiken and Armstrong Atlantic State came in at ninth and 10th, respectively.

Chico State suffered the largest drop in the ranking, 11 places to No. 21 where it is tied with previously unranked Northern Kentucky.

Belmont Abbey, Eckerd and USC-Upstate fell from the ranking.

The GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches at Division II institutions. All are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America.

The next GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll will be released in the spring.
