Men’s Golf Tournament Title

Final Results

HICKORY, N.C. – Presbyterian College claimed its second Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men’s Golf Tournament crown in the last three years on Tuesday at the Lake Hickory Country Club at Catawba Springs. The Blue Hose carded a team two-round score of 593 (302-291) to win the event by 11 strokes over Tusculum (604).

PC enters the NCAA Division II regional’s having acquired its last two events. The Blue Hose picked up the win at the BMW Collegiate just one week earlier on Tuesday, April 10.

Presbyterian was led in the event by Ben Karns (Gaffney, S.C.), who finished in second place individually with a 36-hole output of 145 (74-71).

All five of the Presbyterian golfers finished in the top 15 in the event with three concluding their efforts in the top 10. Thomas Tood (Laurens, S.C.) shot a combined 149 (77-72) to finish tied for fifth, while Patrick Townes (Summerville, S.C.) carded a two-round total of 150 (76-74) to end his efforts in a tie for seventh.

Patrick Coleman (Columbus, Ga.) finished tied for 11th with a score of 152 (78-74) and reigning SAC Men’s Golfer of the Year Hugh Morrison (Macon. Ga.) finished things with a 153 (75-78) to tie for 15th overall at the event.

Tusculum College junior Chase Carroll fired an even-par 144 to capture medalist honors at the 2007 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship.

Carroll, a sophomore from Knoxville, Tenn., fired a 74 in his opening round on Tuesday, and followed with a two-under 70 for his second 18 holes to win the tournament by one shot.

Carson-Newman and Lenoir-Rhyne finished third with 609, while Newberry placed fifth at 613. 

Wingate finished sixth with 616, followed by Catawba (620), Lincoln Memorial (625) and Mars Hill (633).

The two-day, 54-hole championship was shortened to 36-holes on Tuesday due to dangerous wind conditions on Monday
