MARS HILL HANDLES BLUE HOSE, 23-7, IN DEEP SOUTH
MEN’S LACROSSE ACTION

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill College lacrosse team remained undefeated with an impressive 23-7 victory over Deep South Conference foe, Presbyterian College, Wednesday night in Meares Stadium.  MHC improved to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the DSC, while PC fell to 0-2 on the year and 0-2 in the league.

The first quarter was close as MHC only enjoyed a 4-3 advantage after the first 15 minutes of play.  The Lions then scored six unanswered goals in the second frame to take a 10-3 lead into the locker room at the intermission.

The third quarter was the difference.  MHC out shot the Blue Hose 20 to 3, scoring 10 goals to expand their lead to 20-5 by the end of the third frame.  In the last quarter, MHC only out scored PC, 3-2, to make the final tally, 23-7.

MHC out shot PC 58-to-19 in the game and had 31 more ground balls (81-50) than the Blue Hose.  The Lions also won 23-of-34 face-offs in the contest.

Andrew Chapman (Toronto, Ontario) led MHC with four goals and four assists for eight total points.  David Kemp (Webster, N.Y.) followed with four goals and seven ground balls.  Matt Holthaus (Churchville, Md.) made five saves in goal for MHC playing 34:08 in the net.  Ben Riggins (Palmyra, Va.) played the final 25:52 in goal for MHC and made four saves.

Freshman midfielder William Hackett (Nesbit, Miss.) scored three goals to lead the Blue Hose, while sophomore attacker Tim Cassios (St. Albert, Alberta) chipped in a pair and four ground balls.  Freshman goalie David Hetu (Apex, N.C.) played all 60 minutes in goal for PC and made 20 saves in the loss.

MHC will play at No. 4 Limestone College on Saturday at 2:30.  PC will host Manhattanville College at 2:00 on Saturday as well.
