Saturday, February 25, 2006 BLUE HOSE EARN PROGRAM’S FIRST-EVER WIN WITH AN 18-13 VICTORY OVER MANHATTANVILLE IN MEN’S LACROSSE ACTION CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men’s lacrosse team defeated the visiting Valiants of Manhattanville College, 18-2, en route to the program’s first-ever victory in the Blue Hose’s inaugural varsity season. Freshman midfielder William Hackett (Nesbit, Miss.) led PC to the win with five goals, six points, eight ground balls and three caused turnovers as the Blue Hose improve to 1-2 overall. Manhattanville drops to 0-2 on the year. In the first quarter, PC only enjoyed a 4-3 advantage following back-to-back goals from Hackett and sophomore midfielder Tim Cassios (St. Albert, Alberta) that helped the Blue Hose regain the lead. PC gave themselves some breathing room by taking a three-goal lead into intermission after the Valiants’ freshman midfielder Max Garofalo (Yorktown, N.Y.) tied the game at 5-5 at the 3:45 mark. Manhattanville outscored the Blue Hose 5-4 in the third frame to get within two (12-10) but that would be as close as the Valiants would get as PC posted a 6-3 margin in the last quarter. PC out shot Manhattanville, 42-to-35 in the game and had 12 more ground balls (39-27) than the Valiants. The Blue Hose also won 18-of-29 face-offs in the contest, including 16-of-24 by sophomore midfielder Walton Crosby (Jacksonville, Fla.). Other impressive outings furnished by PC players were a four-goal, three-assist performance by Cassios and a four-goal, one-assist showing by freshman midfielder Billy Rinaldi (Birmingham, Ala.). Sophomore attacker Jared Domino (St. Albert, Alberta) chipped in three goals and three assists. Crosby added a goal and an assist as well as seven ground balls. Freshman goalie David Hetu (Apex, N.C.) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Blue Hose, making 10 saves and scooping up six loose balls in the win. Leading the Valiant offense was freshman midfielder Vin Menzenski (Yorktown, N.Y.) as recorded three goals and an assist. Junior attacker Nick DeRobertis (Somers, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Luke Dorfman (Freeport, N.Y.) each tallied two goals and an assist, while senior attacker Andy Nagy (Gardiner, Maine) added a pair of goals and assists. Freshman Tim Gorman (Floral Park, N.Y.) made eight saves in goal for Manhattanville. PC will host Deep South Conference foe, Wingate University, on Saturday, March 4, at 2:00 in Old Bailey Stadium. The Valiants will host Vassar College on Saturday as well at 1:00.
