QUEENS ROLLS PAST PRESBYTERIAN, 16-2, IN DEEP
SOUTH CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte picked up a 16-2 victory over the visiting Blue Hose of Presbyterian College in Deep South Conference (DSC) action on Tuesday afternoon. The win improves the Royals to 3-4 overall (3-2 DSC), while PC falls to 2-7 on the year (1-7 DSC). Queens dominated the game from the opening whistle, rolling to a 12-0 halftime lead. The Royals had eight different players score in the first half of play as sophomore attacker Ian Montgomery (Dublin, Ohio) led the offensive charge with four goals and freshman midfielder Ross Hackett (Columbus, Ohio) contributed a pair. PC’s freshman attacker Tyler Dunn (Cashiers, N.C.) finally put the Blue Hose on the scoreboard with his sixth goal of the season, scoring 33 seconds into the start of the third period. Freshmen attackers Brian Lipscomb (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and Tyler Hines (Charlotte, N.C.) each scored two in the third quarter to help Queens outscore PC, 4-1. Only one goal was tallied in the fourth and final quarter as the Blue Hose’s sophomore attacker Jared Domino (St. Albert, Alberta) recorded his team-leading 19th goal of the year. The Royals out shot PC, 50-12, won 15-of-18 face-offs, and scooped up 47 ground balls to PC’s 18. Montgomery finished the game with four goals and three assists off the bench for Queens, while Hackett added two goals and an assist. Junior midfielder DJ Crump (Greensboro, N.C.) scooped up seven groundballs and won 15-of-18 face-offs. Junior Joel Heimbigner (Poway, Calif.) and freshmen Tyler Rauch (Lake Mary, Fla.) and Steven Lenmeyer (Alexandria, Va.) combined to make five saves with Heimbigner getting the start and Rauch playing 30 minutes with three stops. Freshman defender Drew Tobias (Whitsett, N.C.) hustled after seven loose balls, while Dunn picked up three and a goal for the Blue Hose. Freshman goalie David Hetu (Apex, N.C.) played all 60 minutes, making 16 saves. The Royals will make the trip to Salisbury, N.C. to take on Deep South foe, Catawba College, on April 1 at 2:00. PC will face Saint Leo University in non-conference action in Saint Leo, Fla., on Saturday as well at noon.
