Saturday, March 11, 2006 St. Andrews defeats Presbyterian in Deep South Lacrosse LAURINBURG, N.C. — Twelve different Knights scored as host St. Andrews Presbyterian College defeated visiting Presbyterian College, 25-2, in Deep South Conference (DSC) men’s lacrosse action on Saturday. The Knights, who remain perfect in the DSC at 2-0, improved to 2-4 overall. The Blue Hose fell to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the conference. Presbyterian jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead with a sophomore Tim Cassios (St. Albert, Alberta) goal on a freshman Matt Christ (Cary, N.C.) assist only 1:11 into the contest. However, St. Andrews scored the next seven goals of the first quarter to take control. Freshman Max Kalkstein (Mystic, CT) capped the run with two straight goals, including a man-down tally. Freshman Billy Rinaldi (Birmingham, AL) scored the Blue Hose final goal in the last minute of the first frame to cut the deficit to 7-2 after 15 minutes. SAPC scored eight goals in the second, seven in the third, and three in the fourth to cruise to the 23-goal victory. The Knights dominated the shot attempts (57-16), ground balls (72-38), and face-offs (19-of-30). Junior Dan Hartzell (Lacombe, Alberta) and freshman Zachary Miller (Middletown, DE) led the Knights' attack with four goals and two assists apiece. Kalkstein finished with a hat trick and one assist. Hartzell has a team-high 13 goals. Senior Bryan Riddell (Oshawa, Ontario) and juniors Drew Howell (St. Albert, Alberta), Zach Mryncza (Baltimore, MD) and Dalen Crouse (St. Albert, Alberta) all posted two goals apiece. Mryncza, who added a helper, increased his team-high point total to 22. Howell supplied two assists and Crouse had one. Junior Sean Todd (Union Bridge, MD), freshman Marcus Kirby (Greensboro, NC) and freshman Phil Hardy (Cincinnati, OH) each recorded their first goals of the season. Kirby scored two and was credited for the game-winning goal. Todd also had an assist. Senior Pat Fitzgerald (Baltimore, MD) and freshman Keenan Stout (Potomac Falls, VA) both had a goal and an assist. Freshmen John Osterritter (Arnold, MD), Ryan Ebey (Wading-River, NY) and Kyle Loda (Vienna, VA) chipped in with an assist apiece. Freshman Ethan Young (Hilliard, OH) won 18-of-28 face-offs and scooped up a game-high 14 ground balls. Freshman Steve Hartley (Hilliard, OH) earned his first collegiate victory in the net, making three saves in the first half. Freshman Nate Hull (Millersville, MD) stopped all five shots on goal in the second half for SAPC. Blue Hose netminder David Hetu (Apex, N.C.) had a game-high 20 stops. St. Andrews travels to DSC newcomer Belmont Abbey College on Tuesday at 3:30, while PC entertains the Crusaders on Saturday at 2:00.
