PC Wins First Game Of 2007

CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian won its first men’s lacrosse game of the 2007 season on Friday afternoon with a 9-7 victory over Pfeiffer at Old Bailey Stadium.

Presbyterian is now1-4 on the 2007 campaign, while Pfeiffer falls to 1-5 on the season.

The team’s leading scorer entering the game, PC’s Brian Foley continued to pad his overall points lead for the Blue Hose in the victory, finishing with a game-high tying three goals and a game-high two assists.

The Charlotte, N.C. native ends the contest with a team-best nine goals and seven assists for a team-high 16 points.

Three Blue Hose concluded the game with two or more goals as Sean Mulford (Towson. Md.) had two goals for the Blue Hose in the victory and George McManus (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) added two of his own for PC.

Eddie Gourley (Damascus, Md.) led the Falcons in the loss, scoring three goals for Pfeiffer to end the game as one of two Pfeiffer players with two or more goals. Shawn Cross (Cranberry Township, Pa.) also ended his day with two goals.

Presbyterian led the contest from beginning to end. The Blue Hose shutout the Falcons in the first half with two goals each of the first two quarters to take a 4-0 lead into halftime.

The Falcons actually outscored PC 7-5 in the second half, but Presbyterian’s strong start helped the Blue Hose maintain the victory.

Presbyterian had 36 shots in the victory compared to Pfeiffer’s 31. Both teams scooped up 37 ground balls.

PC had a strong advantage in face-offs, acquiring 12 of the 19 in the game.

Freshman Pat Slaughter (Lutherville, Md.) garnered his first win in the cage for the Blue Hose with the victory over Pfeiffer, saving 13 Falcon shots. Pat Martin (Leonardtown, Md.) was the losing goalkeeper, allowing all nine PC goals.

The Blue Hose next travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to face off against Molloy College in a neutral site contest at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, March 12.
