Jason
Childs, a 2001 graduate of Dickinson College, prepares to
kick off his second season as Presbyterian College’s head
coach of the men’s lacrosse team.
Childs guided the Blue Hose in their inaugural season a year
ago, leading PC to wins over Manhattanville College and Deep
South Conference opponent, Lees-McRae College. He will look
to blend a group of veteran returning letterwinners with a
talented recruiting class to bounce back from last year’s
below .500 record.
A native of Baltimore, Md., Childs came to the Blue Hose
from nearby Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C. During his
tenure with the Saints, he served as the assistant coach,
helping lead the program to a two-year mark of 24-2, the
2004 Deep South Conference (DSC) title, and a runner-up
finish for the NCAA Division II National Championship in
2003 and 2004. He also served as the school’s men’s and
women’s cross country coach during the 2004 fall season.
Childs took over the development of the institution’s first
men’s lacrosse program after replacing Pat Lynch who
resigned on March 9, 2005. The school announced its plans to
add men’s and women’s lacrosse to its athletic program
beginning with the 2004-05 academic year on November 14,
2003. The addition of the two lacrosse teams now gives PC 16
total varsity teams in 10 sports. The men’s team competed at
the club level during the 2004-05 season.
Childs arrived at Limestone by way of Darlington School
(Rome, Ga.), where he served as the offensive coordinator
for the lacrosse team from 2001-2003. While at Darlington,
Childs taught American and British Literature and served as
a Resident Faculty Member. He also gained valuable
experience as an assistant coach for the basketball and
middle school football teams.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies
from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., in 2001, while
performing as a four-year starter at attack and midfield for
the Red Devil lacrosse team. He was a two-time team captain
and won the Unsung Hero Award in 1999. Childs set a school
and Centennial Conference record for assists in a game with
11 and posted the second-best single-game scoring
performance with 12 points on one goal and 11 assists on
March 22, 2000, versus Susquehanna University. He also ranks
fourth in career assists with 64 and eighth in all-time
scoring at Dickinson with 108 points on 44 goals and 64
assists.
Before entering Dickinson, Childs graduated from St. Paul’s
School for Boys in Baltimore, where he played varsity
soccer, basketball, and lacrosse.
His younger brother, Brandon, is also in the coaching ranks
as an assistant coach at Jason’s alma mater of Dickinson,
joining the staff at the beginning of the 2005-06 academic
year.
Childs is married to the former Mary Foss from Rome, Ga. The
couple welcomed their daughter, Elizabeth Ann, on Aug. 10,
2006. The Childs family resides in Clinton, S.C.
