NO. 25 BLUE HOSE ROLL PAST COBRAS 9-0 IN HARTSVILLE, S.C. — The No. 25-ranked Presbyterian College Blue Hose men’s tennis team finished the regular season in impressive fashion on Thursday with a 9-0 victory over the home standing Cobras of Coker College. With the victory, the Blue Hose improve to 12-6 on the season, while Coker ends the season at 4-13. Presbyterian jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after sweeping all three doubles matches. Seniors Nick Osborne (Hutton Rudby, England) and Kshitij Dwivedi (New Delhi, India) extended their win streak to nine straight and improved to 16-1 on the season with a 8-2 victory over CC’s duo of sophomore Danny Nash (Hilton Head, S.C.) and junior Dustin Yager (Summerville, S.C.). PC’s top doubles team of senior Hector Rincon (London, England) and freshman Aaron Chapman (Perth, Australia) improve to 14-1 on the season with an 8-3 victory over junior Duncan Grew (Bath, United Kingdom) and senior Matt Byford (Essex, United Kingdom). In singles, PC freshman Brad Luciuk (Saskatoon, Canada) defeated sophomore Hunter Batts (Greenville, N.C.) 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 6 flight, while Dwivedi defeated Byford 6-1, 6-1 to give PC a 5-0 advantage. Chapman defeated junior Tim Morton (London, England) 6-3, 6-2 and freshman Patrick Fediuk (Douglasville, Ga.) defeated Coker’s Nash 6-1. 6-1, as the lead grew to 7-0. PC’s freshman Andrew Lee (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) cruised past Yager 6-2, 6-2 and Rincon had the toughest singles match of the day, having to come by from a first set loss to defeat Grew 2-6, 6-2, 15-13. The Blue Hose return to action on Friday, April 21 as they compete in the semifinals of the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship held in Jefferson City, Tenn. The top seeded Blue Hose are the defending champions and will take on the winner of No. 5 seed Mars Hill College/No. 4 seed Catawba College winner at 9:00 am. The championship match will be held at 2:30 pm on the same day.
