Thursday, March 23, 2006NO. 26 PRESBYTERIAN ROLLS PAST INDIANS 7-2CLINTON, S.C. — The No. 26 Presbyterian College men's tennis team improved its record to 6-5 (3-0 SAC) on the season with its 7-2 victory over Newberry College on the road Thursday afternoon. The Indians drop to 4-5 (0-1 SAC) on the season. The Blue Hose took an early 2-1 lead after doubles as seniors Nick Osborne (Hutton Rudby, England) and Kshitij Dwivedi (New Delhi, India) defeated Felipe Sobrinho and Kristian Kohannen 8-0 at the No. 2 flight. Fellow senior Hector Rincon (London, England) and freshman Aaron Chapman (Perth, Australia) also defeated Newberry's duo of Daryl Van Vuuren and Scott Gates 8-3 the No. 1 flight. In singles, PC's senior trio of Rincon, Osborne, and Dwivedi, all won in straight sets to secure the match at 5-1. PC's Chapman went three sets versus Toby Rawlings 3-6, 6-1, 10-4 and freshman Pat Fediuk (Kimberley, B.C., Canada) defeated NC's Gates 6-0, 7-6 at No. 5 singles to finish the match. Newberry picked up points at No. 3 doubles as Rawlings and Oliver Elston defeated Fediuk and Brad Luciuk (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) 8-3, while Elston defeated Luciuk 7-5, 6-1 at No. 6 singles. The Blue Hose return to action on Friday, March 24 when they host No. 11 USC Upstate at 2:30 pm on Templeton Courts. |
