PRESBYTERIAN'S NICK OSBORNE
NAMED SAC MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ROCK HILL, S.C. –
Nick
Osborne
of Presbyterian College has been named the South Atlantic
Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week announced league
officials Tuesday. This marks the second time this season
Osborne has earned this honor.
Osborne, a senior from Hutton Rudby, England, led the 25th-ranked
Blue Hose to three victories last week, including a pair
over nationally ranked opponents. Osborne also helped
Presbyterian clinch a share of the 2006 South Atlantic
Conference Regular Season Championship with a 6-3 win over
No. 37 Tusculum College on Sunday.
He went undefeated in all three singles matches and paired
with fellow senior Kshitij Dwivedi to sweep all of
their doubles matches for the week. Osborne defeated
Peter Elsborg of No. 40 Limestone College in straight
sets (6-1, 6-1) at No. 3 singles as the Blue Hose won 7-2
over the Saints.
In Presbyterian's 7-2 SAC win over Carson-Newman College,
Osborne defeated Giuseppe Schwartz 6-0, 2-0 (ret.) at
No. 3 singles and teamed with Dwivedi to defeat the C-N pair
of Ricardo Gutierrez and Travis Bauguess 8-1
at No. 2 doubles.
He played a key role in the win over Tusculum as he clinched
the deciding point for PC with a three-set win over
Antonio Oliver (6-2, 3-6, 7-5).
The SAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week is selected by a
vote of the league's eight sports information directors.
