CANNATELLI & MARTIN SIGN WITH BLUE HOSE MEN’S TENNIS

CLINTON, S.C. — Mark Cannatelli and Matthew Martin have signed national letters of intent to play tennis at Presbyterian College announced today by head coach Patric Hynes.

Cannatelli, a 5-7, 130 lb player attended Box Hill Senior Secondary College in Dandenong, Victoria, Australia and played for head coaches Chris Kachel and Noel Phillips in 2005. He was named team MVP and helped his team win the Victorian State Schools Championship and All-Schools Championships in 2004. In 2005, Cannatelli won the consolation bracket of the Frankston Summer Classic and was the runner-up for the Waverley Junior Tennis Championship. This year, he was a quarterfinalist at the Frankston Tennis Classic.

“Mark is a talented all court player, who comes from the best high school program in his state,” said Hynes. “He will be a valuable addition to our team next year. I am looking forward to the opportunity to develop his game.

Martin, a 5-7, 145 lb senior plays for Earl Marriott Secondary School in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada where he is ranked No. 1 in British Columbia in singles. He won the 2006 British Columbia Junior Indoor Circuit Cup 18’s and the 2006 Hazelmere Junior Championship.

“We are thrilled that Matt has signed with PC. He is a super quick mover around the court, and his game-style is well suited to college tennis. He has also been a high achiever in the classroom. I expect him to make an impact to our squad right away.”

Cannatelli and Martin become the second and third signees for the Blue Hose during the 2005-06 academic year. They join Michael Nicol of Spartanburg, S.C., who signed in November.

The Blue Hose are coming off a 14-7 overall record in 2006 that included a No. 16 final national ranking, the 2006 South Atlantic Conference Regular Season and Food Lion Tournament titles, and a return trip to the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament.
