LAKELAND, Fla. – Senior Lisa Moyer (Florence, S.C.) and freshman Matthew Martin (Surrey, British Columbia, Canada) represented the Presbyterian College tennis programs in their respective championship matches on Sunday at the 2006 Wilson ITA Southeast Regional Tournament with victories on the final day at the regional tournament, which was hosted by Florida Southern College.

Presbyterian's Lauren Brown (Gaffney, S.C.) and Abby Diminich (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) took the final of the women's doubles back draw, beating Rollins' Anastasiya Shevchenko and Silvia Frandji, 8-3.

Men’s

Martin picked up the crown in the men’s back draw on Sunday by defeating the host institutions Nick Berning in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.

The Canadian found his way to the championship match of the men’s singles back draw by first eliminating Barry’s Victor Rodriguez in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Martin then defeated his teammate, sophomore Adam Herendeen (Douglasville, Ga.), 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the finals.

In the men’s back draw in doubles, the PC sophomore tandem of Patrick Fediuk (Kimberley, British Columbia, Canada) and Herendeen lost Sunday in the semifinals to Florida Southern’s Great Heartt and Justin LaFlamme by a score of 8-6. Fediuk/Herendeen had advanced to the semis after disposing of Carson-Newman’s Giuseppe Schwarz and Preston Sneed 8-6.

Junior Zach Glankler (Highland Village, Texas) and sophomore Andrew Lee (Myrtle Beach, S.C.), who made it to the back draw semifinals with a default victory over Saint Leo’s Greg Strange and David Farinez on Saturday, fell to Florida Southern’s Berning and Isaac Galindo 8-5 to thwart the chance of a PC team playing in the championship.

Women’s

Moyer did not need much time to win the singles back draw championship, garnering a victory over Rollins’ Anatasiya Shevchenko (6-0, 6-3) to earn the championship. It was the second straight victory for Moyer over Shevchenko after last year in dual meet action versus Rollins, Moyer handed Shevchenko a 6-1, 6-4 setback when Shevchenko was ranked No. 15 in the Southeast region.

Moyer rolled through the women’s singles back draw pairings, easily disposing of two players to make the final. Moyer first defeated Florida Southern’s Erin Conroy 6-3, 6-2 before posting a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Tampa’s Erin Heeder.

The duo of senior Lauren Brown and sophomore Abby Diminich picked up a win Sunday morning in the doubles semifinals over Tampa’s Heeder and Jessica Faber. Brown and Diminich needed just nine games to down the Tampa twosome, winning the match 8-1.

The PC tandem, who had advanced to Sunday’s semifinals with an 8-3 victory over Nova Southeastern’s Mary Crider and Andrea Moncada in the quarterfinals, took the final of the women's doubles back draw, beating Rollins' Shevchenko and Silvia Frandji, 8-3.
