PC’s Martin Named ITA
Southeast Rookie Of The Year
SKILLMAN, N.J.
- Presbyterian College’s Matthew Martin was named the 2007
Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s NCAA Division II
Southeast Rookie of the Year recently.
The Freshman of
the Year in the South Atlantic Conference in the 2007
season, Martin finished his rookie campaign with a 17-3 mark
individually, including a 16-3 mark at No. 2 singles.
Perfect in SAC
singles matches in 2007, the Surrey, British Columbia,
Canada native concluded the season with nine consecutive
singles wins.
Martin and
doubles partner Aaron Chapman (Mount Pleasant, Australia)
finished the year 18-5 in the first doubles flight.
Nationally-ranked for the majority of the season, the duo
picked up a win in eight of their last 10 matches.
Martin was also
chosen the SAC’s Player of the Week three times in the 2007
season.
The Blue Hose
ended their 2007 campaign having won their seventh SAC
regular season championship and their seventh Food Lion SAC
Tournament championship. PC won five of its final six dual
matches and finished the year with a 17-6 record after its
5-2 loss to Rollins in the first round of the NCAA Division
II Southeast Regional.
