BLUE HOSE SOFTBALL GOES 2-3AT WEST GEORGIA INVITATIONAL

CARROLTON, GA  – Presbyterian improved to 5-9-1 overall after a strong showing at the West Georgia Invitational this past weekend. 

PC got off to a great start at they defeated the University of West Georgia 3-0.  PC’s sophomore catcher Tina Deveaux (Mauldin, SC) knocked in all three Blue Hose runs and freshman pitcher Samantha Slater (Westerville, OH) picked up her second win of the season.

In the second game, Kennesaw State’s sophomore pitcher Tara Hrycuik (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) tossed her second straight two-hitter in defeating PC 6-0. The #10 Owls pounded out ten hits including three by freshman catcher Cambria McKay (Brampton, Ontario) who smacked a pair of doubles.

The Blue Hose took a their second loss of the tournament against Georgia College and State University 4-0.  The Bobcats scored four runs off of six hits and gave PC’s freshman pitcher Brook Norris (Tifton, GA) her seventh loss of the season.  GCSU’s senior pitcher Cathy Chandler (Canton, GA) picked up the win going the distance scattering four hits and striking out six.

Saturday the PC got back into the win column with a 4-3 victory over Georgia Southwestern.  Blue Hose junior second baseman Amanda Teal (Chapin, SC) hit her first homerun of the season in the third inning to give PC a 2-0 lead.  The Hurricanes fought back though and in the top of the seventh inning tied the game at 3-3.  In the bottom of the eight inning Deveaux hit the game winner to drive in senior outfielder Jana Waters (Liberty, SC) and give the Blue Hose the victory.

The Blue Hose lost a tough game to the University North Alabama 5-1 in the final game of the invitational.  Lions senior pitcher Kari Cox (Olathe, KS) went four innings allowing one run off of three hits while striking out four.  PC’s junior short stop Jamie Vining (Fayetteville, GA) went two-for-two scoring the Blue Hose only run of the game.
