ROCKER AND TEAL NAMED TO 2003 VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT SOFTBALL TEAM

CLINTON, S.C. – Senior first baseman Beth Rocker (Alpharetta, GA) was selected to the first team Verizon Academic All-District Team III along with junior second baseman Amanda Teal (Chapin, SC) who was selected to the second team. 

The junior and senior pair led the Blue Hose softball team to a 27-29-1 record, fourth in the South Atlantic Conference regular season, and a their best finish in the SAC softball tournament, a birth in the semifinals. 

Rocker, a 5-9 senior first baseman from Alpharetta, GA is a four-year letterwinner with the Blue Hose softball team and a Psychology major with a 3.71 GPA.  Among her academic accomplishments, she has been named to the school’s Dean’s List eight semesters, SAC Academic Honor Roll eight semesters, and will graduate from PC this spring.  On the field she led the team in doubles (15) and was tied for first in homeruns (7) and RBI (46).  She ranked second on the team in hits (54), batting average (.331), and total bases (92).  She finishes her career ranks in the top-10 in every offensive category in the Blue Hose softball record book.
Teal, a 5-5 junior second baseman from Chapin, SC is a three-year letterwinner and Biology major with a 3.27 GPA.  In the classroom Teal has been named to the school’s Dean’s List and SAC Academic Honor Roll for five semesters each.  This season she led the team in runs scored (54), hits (70), triples (5), batting average (.380), and slugging percentage (.620) while rewriting the team’s offensive record book.  She now holds the record for single season runs scored and slugging percentage while tying with Rocker for most homeruns in a season (7).  She holds the school record for homeruns (9) and runs scored (169) in a career while ranking in the top-5 in almost every other category. 

Rocker will now go on to the national ballot for Verizon Academic All-American which will be announced May 29.
