BLUE HOSE SOFTBALL TAKE TWO IN FINAL AT-BATS AGAINST MT. OLIVE COLLEGE

CLINTON, S.C. –Presbyterian used patience at the plate and the bat of sophomore second baseman Amanda Teal (Chapin, SC) to sweep the Trojans of Mount Olive College 3-2 in the first game and 2-0 in the second game.

Game 1: PC – 3, Mt. Olive - 2

Mt. Olive (1-10) put their first run on the board in the first inning when junior centerfielder Liz Rency (Alexandria, VA) scored on a grounder to the short stop. PC (14-13-1) tied the game up 1-1 in the fifth when sophomore left fielder Whitney Hannon (Greer, SC) crossed the plate after a passed ball. The Trojans put one more on the board in the sixth to give them a 2-1 lead heading into the final frame.

In the bottom of the seventh junior short stop Jamie Vining (Fayetteville, GA) got the Blue Hose rally started off with a walk and was sent home when Teal singled down the left field line to tie the score at 2-2. A double to right center by senior first baseman Beth Rocker (Alpharetta, GA) sent Teal to third and two walks later she scored the winning run giving PC the 3-2 victory.

Blue Hose freshman starter Samantha Slater (Westerville, OH) won her sixth game of the season going the distance scattering six hits and striking out three batters.

Game 2: PC – 2, Mt. Olive – 0

PC’s junior pitcher Brook Norris (Anderson, SC) pitched six strong innings to pick up her sixth win of the season and her second shutout of the year. Norris was backed up by some of the best defense the Blue Hose have had all year as they did not commit one error the entire game.

The Blue Hose only produced four hits on the day but came through when it counted in the bottom of the sixth. Senior center fielder Jana Waters (Liberty, SC) singled down the right field line to begin the rally and then Teal stepped up to the plate and sent her fifth home run of the season over the fence and walked off with a 2-0 victory.

Mt. Olive freshman starting pitcher Melissa Lucas (Wilson, NC) took the loss giving up only four hits while striking out two and walking only one batter.

The Blue Hose are back in action today as they head to Spartanburg to participate in the USC-Spartanburg Tournament. The Trojans will play in the SC Classic Tournament that begins today.
