BLUE HOSE SOFTBALL SWEEPS JAGUARS 5-2 & 8-0
PC extends win streak to ten straight victories

CLINTON, S.C. — Presbyterian College softball team defeats Augusta State University 5-2 & 8-0 Tuesday afternoon at the PC Softball Complex. The Lady Blue Hose extend their win streak to ten straight victories and improve to 10-1 on the season. Augusta State drops to 4-6 on the season.

GAME #1 — PRESBYTERIAN 5, AUGUSTA STATE 2

In game one, Presbyterian took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with freshman second baseman Rachel Bailey (Howard, OH) scoring on an error by the Jaguars' shortstop Michelle Weirauch (Bograt, CA).

In the bottom of the third, the Blue Hose broke the game open by scoring three runs for a 4-0 lead. Freshman first baseman Jessica Peterka (Sarasota, Fl) doubled in Bailey, Jamie Vining (Fayetteville, GA), and Haley Brooks (Tifton, GA). 

With Presbyterian up 5-0, Augusta State rallied in the top of the seventh for two runs. Leigh Schneider (Hemt, CA) singled to drive in Jessica Matta (Visalia, CA) and Shelli Sirmans (Lakeland, GA) singled to drive in Stephanie Miller (Augusta, GA). Augusta State could not manage any more runs and fell to the Lady Blue Hose 5-3. 

Sophomore pitcher Samantha Slater (Westerville, OH) picked up the win for Presbyterian while junior pitcher Erin Cown (Loganville, GA) picked up the loss for the Jaguars.

GAME #2 — PRESBYTERIAN 8, AUGUSTA STATE 0

Game two was a pitching duel between freshman Jessica Flanagan (Piedmont, SC) for the Blue Hose and Sirmans for the Jaguars. However, in the bottom of the fourth the Lady Blue Hose were able to to score two runs on three hits. Designated player Amanda Carvajal (Merced, CA) scored on a single by right fielder Katie Fite (Conway, SC) and Fite would later score on in the inning on an error hit by Brooks.

The Lady Blue Hose finished the Jaguars in the bottom of the sixth by scoring four runs on three hits to win the game 8-0. 

Leading Presbyterian in game two was senior Amanda Teal (Chapin, SC) who had two hits and two runs scored. Peterka (1-4) had two RBI's, and Brooks went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. 

Augusta State was lead by Weirauch who went 2-3 in the game. 

Freshman pitcher Flanagan (2-0) picked up the shutout victory for Presbyterian and Sirmans (2-3) picked up the loss for Augusta State. 

The Lady Blue Hose return to action this Thursday to play Lander University at home starting at 2 p.m. Earlier this season, PC split with Lander. Augusta State returns to play March 7, when they face Peach Belt opponent Columbus State at home starting at 1 p.m.
