Lauren Hixson connects on
solo homerun in second inning |
The Blue Hose never lost in
the event and ended with a 4-0 SAC Tourney record. This was
the third consecutive year that Carson-Newman has made it to
the Championship Game and lost.
Lauren Hixson
(Spartanburg, SC) hit a
solo homerun over the left field fence to give the Blue Hose a
1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. That score would
later prove to be the game-winning run. Jessica Peterka
(Sarasota, FL) singled to right in the third inning to plate Haley Brooks
(Tifton, GA) and PC took a 2-0 advantage. |

Carson-Newman's best chance
to tie or take a lead in the contest came in the top of the
fifth inning when the Eagles loaded the bases with just one
out on the scoreboard. Presbyterian pitcher Samantha Slater
came through by getting the Eagles number three hitter to foul
out to the Blue Hose third baseman and then got the clean-up
hitter to ground out to second.
Hixson led PC at the plate
going 2-for-3 with a homerun. Peterka was 1-for-3 with a RBI.
Katie Fite also went 1-for-3. The win was Slater's fourteenth
(14-3) on the mound this season.
